Welcome to April! Let's read poetry! DUE: by May 8th

In this unit you will read a variety of poems by different poets. For each poem think about how poets use literary and poetic devices to engage readers. You will analyze and evaluate the four poems on the reading list then complete a Choice Board related to them.

Successfully completing each lesson means that you will be able to answer the following essential questions:

  • How do readers’ personal experiences enable them to connect with poems?

  • How does figurative language, imagery, symbolism, sensory language help engage readers?

STRATEGY IN FOCUS:

We will use SLAM as our reading strategy. For each poem, you will think about the structure, language, affect, and meaning.

If you are NOT ABLE to access Common Lit on a device to read the poems, a printable version is available here.


For this option you may do your work on your own paper or print a copy to write on.


 

Due Date: In my mind, the assigned due date is April 30th. In reality, I will continue to accept all poetry work through May 8th.
